Valras-Plage lies in the Hérault department, in Occitanie, at the mouth of the Orb, on the Mediterranean coast between Béziers and Vendres. The campsites listed here all benefit from seaside access, in a resort that developed from the nineteenth century onward around its beach and seafront.
The town remains one of the busiest resorts on the Hérault coast, with an active marina and a long sandy beach that stretches on either side of the mouth of the Orb. This setup, between river and sea, gives Valras-Plage a varied coastal landscape, different from the lagoons that characterise other parts of the Languedoc coast.
Camping here forms a historic part of the accommodation offering, the resort having very early on developed outdoor accommodation capacity suited to its seaside vocation, in an area close to Béziers and its wine-growing heritage.
Valras-Plage is organised around its seafront promenade and its marina, set at the mouth of the Orb, a river that flows into the Mediterranean here after crossing Béziers. This meeting of river and sea gives the resort a distinctive landscape, with lively quays in summer.
The main beach, wide and supervised, remains the heart of summer activity, while the banks of the Orb allow for quieter walks away from the seafront. Valras-Plage's market, as in many Languedoc resorts, sets the rhythm of local life several times a week.
A few kilometres away, Béziers brings its older heritage, with its Saint-Nazaire cathedral overlooking the Orb and the nine Fonséranes locks on the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Biterrois vineyards, which surround this whole part of the Hérault, round out the visiting options around Valras-Plage.
