Portiragnes, in the Hérault department, in Occitanie, is made up of a wine-growing village and a seaside extension, Portiragnes-Plage, on the Gulf of Lion. All the campsites in the town benefit from direct sea access, on a fine sandy coastline representative of the Languedoc coast.
Camping in Portiragnes makes it possible to enjoy a family-friendly seaside, less built-up than some neighbouring resorts, while staying close to Béziers and the Canal du Midi that crosses the village. The town keeps a strong wine-growing identity, with vineyards stretching right up to the edge of the seaside resort, a pleasant contrast between land and sea.
The Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, crosses the village of Portiragnes and invites a walk or bike ride, in the shade of the plane trees planted along its banks since the seventeenth century. The village still has a fortified church, evidence of its medieval past, and a compact centre built around lanes typical of wine-growing Languedoc.
Portiragnes-Plage, a few kilometres from the village, offers a wide sandy strip that stretches to Sérignan and Valras-Plage. The surrounding vineyards, which produce some of the region's wine, round out the landscape between sea and land, with several estates open to visitors not far from the coast.
