Finistère Sud refers to a vast area of the Finistère department, in Brittany, covering a large part of the southern coast of the Breton peninsula, between rocky coves and long fine sandy beaches. With eighty-two establishments listed, it's one of the densest areas on the portal, very largely geared towards the sea, complemented by a few campsites by a river, pond or lake.
People camp here for the diversity of a coastline that ranges from large beaches open to the Atlantic to more sheltered estuaries, such as that of the Odet. Finistère Sud caters to every kind of seaside taste, from surfing in full swell to a quiet walk along the rias that carve up the coast.
This vast area suits every type of holidaymaker, between lively large resorts and smaller, more secluded coves. The density of camping options in Finistère Sud makes it one of the most natural entry points for discovering the Breton peninsula.
The Glénan archipelago, reachable by boat from several harbours in Finistère Sud, is known for its turquoise waters reminiscent of tropical lagoons, a striking contrast with the rest of the Breton coast. The Odet river winds between Quimper and the sea through a wooded landscape, often cited among the most beautiful rivers in France.
This vast area brings together iconic harbours such as Concarneau and its Ville Close, as well as many more low-key seaside resorts, each with its own beaches and coves. Between rocky points, dunes and estuaries, Finistère Sud offers one of the most varied coastlines in Brittany, to be discovered on foot along the coastal path as much as by boat off the islands.
The town of Quimper, with its Gothic cathedral and old quarter, also offers an easy cultural getaway from anywhere in the area. The small fishing harbours scattered along the coast round out this discovery with a more intimate atmosphere, far from the larger resorts.
