Everything about the campsites by the water in Vannes

Vannes is the capital of the Morbihan department, in Brittany, set at the head of the Gulf of Morbihan, this inland sea dotted with dozens of islands that has made the reputation of the whole southern Brittany. The campsites listed here benefit from sea access, in a town that combines an active marina with well-preserved historic heritage.

The Vannes coastline stands apart from the more exposed coasts of Atlantic Brittany thanks to the relative calm of the gulf, a vast semi-enclosed body of water well suited to light sailing, sea kayaking and boat trips to the islands. This distinctive setting gives Vannes the profile of a maritime city quite different from the classic seaside resorts of the Breton coast.

Camping in Vannes makes it possible to combine discovering a historic city, with its ramparts and old town, with direct access to the Gulf of Morbihan, one of the most renowned natural and sailing sites in Brittany, a fairly rare asset for a department capital.

What to see and do in Vannes

Vannes preserves one of the best-preserved old towns in Brittany, ringed by medieval ramparts, with its half-timbered houses, its wash houses along the Marle and its Saint-Pierre cathedral. The harbour, set at the mouth of the Gulf of Morbihan, remains a lively place, between pleasure boats and café terraces.

The Gulf of Morbihan itself, with its dozens of islands including Île-aux-Moines and Île-d'Arz, can be explored by boat from Vannes' harbour, a classic excursion for observing oyster beds, oyster huts and landscapes that change with the tides. The megalithic alignments of Carnac, a little further west, round out the discovery of this exceptional Breton prehistoric heritage.

The more down-to-earth Saint-Patern district, and the Marché des Lices, one of the busiest in Brittany, add a dimension of local life to the visit, beyond the mere postcard image of the gulf, between ramparts, wash houses and fishing boats.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
