Quiberon, in the Morbihan department, in Brittany, occupies the tip of a narrow peninsula that reaches far out into the Atlantic Ocean. All the campsites in the town benefit from direct sea access, with two sharply contrasting frontages: a sheltered coast facing the bay, and the Côte Sauvage, fully exposed to the ocean.
Camping in Quiberon means enjoying this dual maritime identity, between well-protected family beaches and cliffs battered by waves on the western frontage. The peninsula also serves as a boarding point for Belle-Île-en-Mer, making it a practical base for exploring the Morbihan archipelago while enjoying a temperate oceanic climate.
The Côte Sauvage, which runs along the west of the Quiberon peninsula, is one of the most impressive natural sites in Brittany, with its jagged cliffs directly exposed to the Atlantic waves; the coastal path that runs along it offers spectacular viewpoints, particularly in rough seas.
Quiberon also gave its name to modern thalassotherapy, popularised in the 1960s by champion cyclist Louison Bobet, who opened one of the first seawater treatment centres in France there. Quiberon's harbour remains the main departure point for sea links to Belle-Île-en-Mer, the largest Breton island, less than an hour's crossing away.
