Erdeven, in the Morbihan department, in Brittany, stretches between the Pointe de Kerhilio and the Quiberon peninsula, along a coastline of dunes and long sandy beaches. Ten camping establishments are listed in the town, very largely by the sea, with access also to a small coastal pond.
People camp here for vast, little-developed beaches, ideal for surfing and swimming, in a setting of pine forest and unspoilt dunes. Erdeven appeals both to families and to board-sport enthusiasts, just a few kilometres from Carnac and the Quiberon peninsula.
It's a destination that favours space and coastal nature, far from the more built-up feel of some neighbouring resorts. Erdeven particularly suits those looking for long beaches to spread out a towel without feeling cramped, in a setting still largely unspoilt on the Morbihan coast. It's a practical base for exploring Carnac, Quiberon and the Gulf of Morbihan without leaving the coast.
The megalithic alignments of Kerzerho, in Erdeven, are among the most important groups of standing stones in Brittany after those of Carnac, with several hundred stones set up over nearly a kilometre. This major archaeological site can be visited freely, in the middle of fields, and naturally rounds out a discovery of the Carnac area.
Erdeven's beaches, such as Kerhilio or Kerminihy, are known for their long stretches of sand and their conditions favourable to surfing, driven by the Atlantic swell. The pine forest lining the coast, planted to hold back the dunes, offers shaded paths linking the different beaches, with views over the Quiberon peninsula and Belle-Île-en-Mer offshore.
Erdeven's dune belt, protected and crossed with marked paths, finally allows visitors to observe coastal plant life typical of this stretch of the Breton Atlantic coast. These fragile dunes are carefully marked out to balance summer visitor numbers with preserving the natural environment.
