Torreilles lies on the Roussillon coast, in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, between Sainte-Marie-la-Mer and Le Barcarès, on this stretch of the Catalan coast lined with long fine sandy beaches. The campsites listed here all benefit from seaside access, at Torreilles-Plage, the town's seaside district, distinct from the old village set further inland.
This two-hub setup, historic village and coastal resort, is common on the Roussillon coast. Torreilles-Plage developed around a wide strip of sand less built-up than other neighbouring resorts, with unspoilt natural areas behind the beach, notably dune and marsh areas.
Camping here forms a significant part of the resort's accommodation offering, in an area long known for its large capacity for seaside visitors, close to Perpignan and the whole Catalan coast, between the Roussillon plain and the Pyrenees massif.
Torreilles-Plage stands out for the extent of its fine sandy beach, one of the widest on the Roussillon coast, lined with dunes and a few natural areas still spared from dense development. The village of Torreilles, set back from the coast, keeps a more Catalan atmosphere, with its church and narrow lanes.
Being close to the Étang de Salses-Leucate and the coastal marshes offers viewing areas for birdwatching enthusiasts, in an area where pink flamingos and other waterbirds cross paths depending on the season. Le Barcarès harbour, with its famous grounded liner turned museum, lies a few kilometres to the north.
Perpignan, the historic capital of the Roussillon with its Castillet and Catalan centre, remains reachable in about twenty minutes, while the Canigou massif, visible on clear days from the beach, is a reminder of how close the Pyrenees are behind the Roussillon coastal plain.
