Saint-Malo, in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, in Brittany, is one of the most iconic towns on the Emerald Coast. Of the four campsites listed here, three are by the sea and one near a body of water, a split that matches the extent of the town's land, between large beaches and more residential areas further inland.
Camping in Saint-Malo means enjoying direct sea access, with the silhouette of the corsair city's ramparts in the background, visible from several of the town's beaches. The town also remains an important harbour, with regular links to the Channel Islands and England.

The walled town, or intra-muros, remains the historic heart of Saint-Malo, ringed by seventeenth-century ramparts that can be walked along their entire length, with views over the bay and rocky islets. Fort National and Chateaubriand's tomb, set on the Grand Bé islet reachable at low tide, round out this heritage tied to the history of the corsairs.
The Rothéneuf district, east of the town, is home to the rocks carved by Abbé Fouré in the late nineteenth century, a set of natural sculptures unique in France, carved straight into the cliff face.
Saint-Malo also remains a departure port for the Channel Islands, Jersey and Guernsey, and for Portsmouth in England, an easy way to extend a camping stay with a trip across the Channel.
