Saint-Lunaire, in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, in Brittany, is part of the Emerald Coast, known for the colour of its waters. The single campsite listed in the town is set by the sea, benefiting from two quite distinct beaches that give the village its character.
The resort, more low-key than its neighbour Dinard, has kept a residential character marked by many Belle Époque villas built on the seafront. Camping in Saint-Lunaire means enjoying a rocky coastline typical of the Emerald Coast, with easy access to the livelier resorts nearby.
The town remains a good anchor point for discovering this part of Brittany, between sheltered beaches and rocky points battered by the tides.
Saint-Lunaire has two quite distinct beaches, the Grande Plage to the west and Longchamp beach to the east, separated by the Pointe du Décollé, a rocky site carved by the waves where the Grotte des Sirènes can be seen at low tide. The coastal path that runs along this point offers one of the finest viewpoints on the Emerald Coast.
The village also has discreet megalithic heritage, with a standing stone still visible on its land, evidence of very early settlement on this coastline. The parish church and the early-twentieth-century seaside villas round out this more recent heritage.
A few kilometres away, Dinard and Saint-Malo make it possible to extend the visit, between large beaches and historic ramparts, while keeping Saint-Lunaire as a quieter base.
