Everything about the campsites by the water in Cancale

Cancale, in Ille-et-Vilaine (Brittany), is a fishing and oyster-farming harbour set at the entrance to the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. All seven campsites listed face the sea, in an area where a rocky coastline alternates with small beaches and vast expanses exposed at low tide.

The town is known the world over for its oysters, farmed for centuries on the tidal flats stretching out from the harbour of La Houle. This coastline, marked by strong tides typical of this part of Brittany, shapes all local activity.

Camping in Cancale means enjoying sea access with views over the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, in a town that has kept its character as an oyster-farming harbour and fishing village rather than a classic seaside resort.

to discover

What to see and do in Cancale

The harbour of La Houle, the historic heart of Cancale, remains where the town's oyster-farming activity is concentrated: the oyster beds, visible at low tide, stretch for several kilometres offshore, and the stalls of the oyster market, set up right on the quay, are among the must-sees of the town.

The Sentier des Douaniers, which runs along the coast, offers regular views over the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and leads to the Pointe du Grouin, a rocky headland classed as a protected site, with views over the Chausey Islands on clear days.

Old Cancale, set above the harbour, still has its Saint-Méen church and its granite houses typical of this Breton coast, while the Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires retraces the history of local fishing and oyster farming.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
