Erquy, in the Côtes d'Armor department, in Brittany, is known as the French capital of the scallop, fished in the bay of the same name. Ten camping establishments are listed in the town, very largely benefiting from a coastline marked by pink sandstone cliffs and long sandy beaches.
People camp here for this spectacular coastline, between a rugged headland and sheltered coves, in an area where traditional fishing still shapes local life. Erquy draws in seafood lovers as much as those seeking an unspoilt Breton seaside, halfway between Saint-Malo and Saint-Brieuc.
The town lends itself to a stay combining family beaches, coastal hiking and discovering local seafood produce. Erquy thus keeps a strong maritime identity, carried by a fishing fleet still active all year round, in a natural setting ranked among the finest in the Côtes d'Armor.
Cap d'Erquy, with its pink sandstone cliffs and moorland covered in heather and gorse, forms one of the most remarkable natural sites in the Côtes d'Armor, crossed with hiking trails offering views over the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. The town celebrates its scallop festival every year, its flagship local catch.
Erquy's harbour, still active, is home to one of the main scallop fishing fleets in France, whose activity can be discovered through the fish auctions and market stalls. Not far away, the Château de Bienassis, a fifteenth-century residence surrounded by moats, rounds out the discovery of an area shared between maritime heritage and coastal moorland landscapes.
The fine sandy beaches lining the cape, such as the neighbouring Sables d'Or, round out the seaside appeal of this part of the Côtes d'Armor. The coastal path running along the cape also offers numerous viewpoints over the Bay of Saint-Brieuc and its surroundings.

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
