Everything about the campsites by the water in Jura

Jura has 28 listed wateside campsites, very largely dominated by lakes: 22 establishments border a body of water, against six on river banks. The department owes this strong lake proportion to Lake Vouglans, a vast artificial reservoir nestled in the Jura retreats, as well as to Lake Chalain and Lake Abbey, smaller but very frequented in summer.

Rivers, such as the Ain at its source or the Bienne, complete the offering in enclosed valleys appreciated for canoeing and fishing. The Jura massif, with its conifer forests and limestone retreats, offers a preserved natural setting for these bodies of water and watercourses.

With 28 campsites, Jura is one of the benchmark destinations for mid-mountain lake camping, between Vouglans, Chalain and the vineyards of Arbois.

What to see and do in Jura

Jura is marked by its large mid-mountain lakes, starting with Lake Vouglans, one of France's largest artificial reservoirs, appreciated for sailing and swimming. Lake Chalain, with turquoise waters, and Lake Abbey complete this lake offering in the heart of the Jura forests.

The retreats, these enclosed valleys ending in blind-alley formations typical of Jura relief, offer waterfalls and remarkable viewpoints, particularly around Baume-les-Messieurs, a village classified among France's most beautiful. The vineyard of Arbois, birthplace of yellow wine, adds a gastronomic dimension to the visit.

Between mountain lakes, spectacular retreats and typical vineyard, Jura offers preserved landscape, still away from major tourist flows.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
