Clairvaux-les-Lacs lives up to its name: this town in the Jura department, in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, is built between the Grand Lac and the Petit Lac, two bodies of fresh water nestled in the rolling landscapes of the Jura. The local campsite naturally builds on this lakeside identity rather than on access to the sea or a large river.
The single listed establishment in the town allows visitors to enjoy swimming, fishing and walks around the lakes, in a setting still spared from mass tourism. People come here for the coolness of the Jura waters and being right next to nature, between forests and small country roads.

The shores of Clairvaux's Grand Lac and Petit Lac have yielded the remains of prehistoric lake settlements, villages built on stilts several thousand years ago. These sites, recognised as UNESCO World Heritage under the prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps, can be visited notably via the village's archaeological museum.
Beyond this scientific interest, the lakes of Clairvaux lend themselves to swimming, fishing and walks or bike rides along their banks. The village itself, with its houses typical of the Jura, keeps the quiet charm of a village built to the rhythm of the water and the seasons.
The surrounding area, between fir forests and small limestone plateaus, rounds out a discovery of a Jura area still largely spared from mass tourism. The small roads linking the neighbouring villages invite bike rides along the lakes and the reculées, the Jura's characteristic steep-sided valleys.
