the guide

Everything about the campsites by the water in Yonne

Yonne has 5 listed wateside campsites, with dominance for the river, followed by pond and, more rarely, lake. The department is crossed by the Yonne itself as well as by the Cure and Serein, rivers descending from nearby Morvan towards the Paris basin.

Ponds, well present in the landscape, recall proximity to Puisaye, a bocage and pond region in the southwest of the department, made famous by writer Colette, a native of Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye. This diversity of aquatic environments, though on a limited offering, reflects the richness of local hydrographic networks.

With only 5 campsites, Yonne remains a discreet destination for wateside camping, more focused on wine and heritage tourism than on large water infrastructure.

to discover

What to see and do in Yonne

Yonne is renowned for its Chablis vineyard, whose white wines count among Burgundy's most famous, as well as for the Basilica of Vézelay, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site and the historic starting point of the Way of Saint James to Compostela.

Puisaye, a bocage and pond region in the southwest of the department, is associated with writer Colette, who sets part of her work there. Auxerre, the department's prefecture, retains a historic centre along the banks of the Yonne, a navigable river that crosses the town.

Between Chablis vineyard, Vézelay Basilica and Puisaye bocage, Yonne offers dense cultural heritage over a modest-sized territory.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
