La Baule, in the Loire-Atlantique department, is entirely organised around its bay and its fine sandy beach, nearly eight kilometres long, considered one of the finest in Europe. The town benefits from a seafront dotted with Belle Époque villas and a belt of pines that shelters it from the wind. It's a classic camping destination on the Loire-Atlantique coast, just a few kilometres from Guérande and its peninsula, for a complete seaside stay in Pays de la Loire.
La Baule's large beach, a perfect arc, stretches for nearly eight kilometres of fine sand, lined by a continuous promenade very popular for walking and jogging facing the ocean. Its shape and regularity make it one of the most recognisable on the Atlantic coast.
The seafront still has many villas built during the Belle Époque, evidence of the resort's rise from the late nineteenth century onward, when families from Nantes and Paris came to spend the summer here. The pine forest planted to hold back the dunes now offers shaded avenues separating the town centre from the seafront. A few kilometres away, the medieval town of Guérande and its salt marshes round out the visit. Between a large beach, period villas and the nearby Guérande peninsula, La Baule remains a benchmark of the Loire-Atlantique coast.
