Everything about the campsites by the water in VERS PONT DU GARD

Vers-Pont-du-Gard lies in the Gard department, in Occitanie, right next to the Pont du Gard, the Roman aqueduct listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site that spans the Gardon. The campsite listed here benefits from a riverside setting, with access to the Gardon, the river that carved out, over the centuries, the gorge where the famous bridge stands.

The town draws much of its tourist identity from this prestigious neighbour, while keeping a strongly rural, Provençal character, between garrigue scrubland and vineyards. The river's water here lends itself to swimming and canoeing, a classic activity for discovering the Pont du Gard site from the water rather than from the banks.

Camping in Vers-Pont-du-Gard makes it possible to enjoy direct access to the Gardon while staying just minutes on foot from one of the most visited ancient monuments in France, drawing tourists from all over the world every year.

What to see and do in VERS PONT DU GARD

Vers-Pont-du-Gard obviously owes its name to the Pont du Gard, this first-century Roman aqueduct that once carried water across the Gardon to Nîmes, and remains one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Europe, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site, developed to welcome visitors, can be explored on foot from the riverbanks.

The Gardon itself, below the bridge, can be paddled by canoe over several kilometres, a popular way to discover the monument from a different angle, between limestone gorges and generally calm waters in the summer season. Swimmers also make use of the natural banks laid out around the site.

The village of Vers-Pont-du-Gard, more low-key, keeps a typical Provençal character, with its lanes and surrounding garrigue. Nearby, Uzès and its ducal heritage, as well as Nîmes and its Roman arena, round out a discovery of this part of the Gard, rich in ancient and Provençal heritage, between garrigue and vineyards.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
