Everything about the campsites by the water in Grau du Roi

Le Grau-du-Roi, in the Gard department, occupies a distinctive position on the Occitanie coast: the town is crossed by a grau, the natural channel that links the Mediterranean Sea to the Camargue lagoons, and it also borders the Rhône to Sète canal. The campsites listed here on this portal reflect this dual identity, between the sea, an inland body of water and waterways: three establishments by the sea, two linked to a waterway and one to a lake.

It's one of the few coastal towns where you can move from a traditional fishing harbour to a landscape of Camargue marshes and lagoons within a few kilometres. Port Camargue, the large neighbouring marina, rounds out this nautical picture. For a camping stay, Le Grau-du-Roi makes it possible to combine a classic Mediterranean beach with the wilder atmosphere of the lagoons, in a pleasant Mediterranean climate for much of the year.

What to see and do in Grau du Roi

The old village of Le Grau-du-Roi has kept its soul as a fishing harbour: trawlers still come back in through the central channel, watched by passers-by seated on café terraces. Right next door, Port Camargue is known as one of the largest marinas in Europe, with houses built directly on the quays, each with its own mooring ring.

The town also borders the Camargue gardoise, with its lagoons, marshes and landscapes of free-roaming bulls and horses, very different from the seaside atmosphere of the front. L'Espiguette beach, a vast expanse of wild sand lined with dunes, stretches for several kilometres south of the resort. Between the morning fish auction, canals and nearby Camargue nature, Le Grau-du-Roi offers a more varied face than most Mediterranean coast resorts.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
