Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains lies in the Landes department, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, on the Atlantic coast between Hossegor and Moliets. The campsites listed here mostly benefit from sea access, with several establishments also facing the saltwater lake, this body of salt water laid out right at the heart of the resort, a distinctive feature that sets Vieux-Boucau apart from the other coastal towns of the Landes.
This dual frontage, the ocean on one side and a calm lake on the other, lets the resort offer two quite different swimming atmospheres: the Atlantic swell on the beach side and sheltered water, with no waves or current, on the lake side. All of it is surrounded by the Landes forest, ever-present along this stretch of coast.
Camping in Vieux-Boucau thus makes it possible to choose between the seaside and the lakeside depending on the mood of the stay, in a resort that remains more family-friendly and less built-up than its neighbours Hossegor or Capbreton.
Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains stands out for its saltwater lake, a body of salt water created in the nineteenth century by developing the former mouth of the Adour, today separated from the ocean and fed through sluice gates that regulate its level. This setup, unique on the Landes coast, offers a calm swimming area, popular with families, right next to the ocean.
The Courant d'Huchet, a little further south, links the Étang de Léon to the ocean through a protected nature reserve, a listed site that can be explored by flat-bottomed boat on guided trips, through vegetation that's almost tropical, rare on the Atlantic coast.
Vieux-Boucau's ocean beach, lined by the Landes forest, remains a recognised surf spot, while the village market, lively in season, rounds out the atmosphere of a resort that has managed to keep a more family-friendly character than its more built-up neighbours Hossegor or Capbreton.

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
