Cagnes-sur-Mer, in the Alpes-Maritimes department (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), is a town on the Baie des Anges coastline, between Nice and Antibes. Both campsites listed face the sea, in a built-up part of the Côte d'Azur.
The town is divided into several distinct districts: the seafront and its beach, the modern town, and the hilltop village of Haut-de-Cagnes, built on a hill set back from the coast. This contrast between sea and medieval village is part of the town's charm.
Camping in Cagnes-sur-Mer means enjoying direct beach access while remaining close to Nice and Antibes, two major Côte d'Azur towns easily reached within a few minutes.
Haut-de-Cagnes, a medieval village perched above the modern town, is home to the Château-Musée Grimaldi, a fourteenth-century fortress altered during the Renaissance, today a museum dedicated in particular to the Mediterranean olive tree and to modern art.
Cagnes-sur-Mer is also linked to painting history: Auguste Renoir lived out his last twelve years here in his house at Les Collettes, today a departmental museum, surrounded by an olive grove he himself preserved.
On the seafront, the beach lines the Baie des Anges, while the Côte d'Azur racecourse, one of the main ones in the region, rounds out the town's amenities. The old town and its cobbled lanes offer a marked contrast with the developed coastline.
