Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez stretches along the Vendée coast, between Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Saint-Jean-de-Monts, in this department of the Vendée that regulars nickname the Côte de Lumière. The campsite listed here benefits from Atlantic Ocean access, in a town known for the length of its coastline, one of the most extensive on the Vendée coast.
The town alternates fine sandy beaches, protected dune belts and marshland further inland, a landscape typical of this part of the Vendée where water shapes the whole area, between the ocean and wetlands. The Sion-sur-l'Océan area, part of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, adds its small-harbour atmosphere and jetty to this maritime scenery.
People come to camp here for the balance between fresh sea air and relative calm, away from the bustle of the busiest resorts on the Vendée coast, while staying right next to the shops and activities of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, just a few minutes' drive from the campsite.
Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez owes much of its character to its protected dunes and the nature reserve that lines part of its coastline, an area managed to preserve the plant and animal life specific to the Vendée dune belt. There are many walking and cycling routes here, along paths that run beside the coast or cross the marshes set back from the shore.
The hamlet of Sion-sur-l'Océan, with its small harbour and church, keeps the atmosphere of a fishing village that the town has managed to preserve despite the area's tourist growth. The large Riez beach remains one of the classic meeting points for swimming and board sports, when wind conditions allow.
A few kilometres away, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and its active fishing harbour, one of the most important on the Vendée coast, round out the visit with its market halls and market. Enough to combine unspoilt nature and a lively coastal life within a single area.

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
