Everything about the campsites by the water in Brétignolles-sur-Mer

Brétignolles-sur-Mer, in the Vendée department (Pays de la Loire), combines two faces across its four listed campsites: all face the sea, and three of them also benefit from a lake right nearby. A fairly rare setup on the Vendée coast, allowing visitors to alternate between sea swimming and calmer sheltered water.

The town spans several beaches, including that of La Normandelière, known for its coastal lake that flows into the ocean, forming a distinctive landscape of dunes, marshes and wetlands just behind the coastal strip.

Between Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Les Sables-d'Olonne, Brétignolles-sur-Mer keeps a less built-up character than its neighbours, with a coastline that combines sandy beaches, small cliffs and these coastal lakes that form part of its identity.

What to see and do in Brétignolles-sur-Mer

La Normandelière beach, bordered by a lake fed by the stream of the same name, is the most distinctive site in Brétignolles-sur-Mer: at low tide, you can see where the lake's fresh water meets the sea water, a fairly rare landscape on this stretch of the Vendée coast.

The town has several other beaches, including that of Marais Girard, and a coastal path that runs along the small rocky cliffs towards Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie to the north. The area is also popular with surfers, as the Vendée coast is known for its consistent waves.

Inland, the Vendée hedgerow countryside and marshes offer cycling routes, in an area that remains less busy than the larger neighbouring seaside resorts.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
