Everything about the campsites by the water in Noirmoutier

Noirmoutier, in the Vendée department, Pays de la Loire, is an island linked to the mainland by a bridge and by the famous Passage du Gois, a submersible road passable only at low tide. Unsurprisingly, all the campsites in the town benefit from direct sea access, the island being entirely bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.

Camping in Noirmoutier means enjoying a varied coastline, between fine sandy beaches on the ocean side and more sheltered shores on the salt-marsh side, with a distinctive light that has long drawn painters and nature lovers. The island remains marked by salt and early-potato farming, two activities that still shape the landscape between the salt pans and the cultivated fields, right next to the beaches.

What to see and do in Noirmoutier

The Passage du Gois, a paved road more than four kilometres long that's covered by the sea at every high tide, is probably the best-known site on Noirmoutier, used every year for a running race that plays with the rising water. The island also has its medieval castle, in the village of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, and the Bois de la Chaize, a pine forest planted in the nineteenth century that lines several sheltered beaches.

The salt marshes, still worked, produce Noirmoutier salt and shape part of the island's landscape, while the early potato, the famous bonnotte, builds the local reputation every spring. Between dunes, forest and marshland, Noirmoutier keeps a strong rural and maritime identity, far from the denser development of other resorts on the Vendée coast.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
