Nièvre has 15 listed wateside campsites, shared equally between river and lake: six establishments border a watercourse, six a body of water, and three are found near a pond. This diversity reflects the department's geography, crossed by the Loire to the west and occupied by the Morvan massif to the east.
Lake Pannecière, the Morvan's largest body of water, concentrates a significant part of the lake offering, while rivers benefit from the Loire's course, still wild at this stage of its journey, with its characteristic sand banks. Ponds, more numerous in Nivernais, to the north of the department, complete this panorama.

Nièvre is bordered to the west by the Loire, often presented as Europe's last great wild river, with its characteristic sand banks and landscapes still preserved from urbanisation. The city of Nevers, the department's prefecture, is renowned for its cathedral and faïence tradition.
To the east, the Morvan Regional Natural Park deploys its forests and lakes, including Lake Pannecière, the massif's main body of water. Morvan is also known for its role in the Resistance and for its rolling landscapes conducive to hiking and mountain biking.
Between wild Loire and wooded Morvan, Nièvre offers a contrast of landscapes between fluvial plain and mid-mountain.
