Doubs has 11 listed wateside campsites, shared between river and lake: six establishments border a watercourse, mainly the Doubs itself, and five benefit from a body of water. Besançon, the department's prefecture, is renowned for its Vauban-built citadel, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for its historic centre installed in a loop of the Doubs. The Jura massif, with its conifer forests and cheese factories, completes the franc-comtois landscape.
Between Vauban citadel, natural waterfalls and mid-mountain lakes, Doubs offers dense natural and built heritage over a restricted territory.
