Everything about the campsites by the water in Martigues

Martigues, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, is a port town in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, built around canals that earned it the nickname 'Provençal Venice'. The six campsites listed are all linked to the sea, in keeping with the town's direct opening onto the Mediterranean, between the Côte Bleue and the Étang de Berre.

Camping in Martigues means enjoying Mediterranean access in a town that has kept a strong Provençal character, with its fishermen's quarters and canals that inspired many painters in the twentieth century. Its position between the open sea and a large inland body of water makes it an interesting base for exploring the whole Marseille area.

to discover

What to see and do in Martigues

The Île quarter, the historic heart of Martigues crossed by canals lined with colourful façades, drew many painters in the early twentieth century and remains the town's most photographed spot, often compared to Venice for its atmosphere of small bridges and reflections on the water.

Martigues also borders the Étang de Berre, a vast inland lagoon linked to the sea, offering a calmer face than the open Mediterranean. The Côte Bleue, west of the town, strings together its calanques and rocky coves all the way to the edge of Marseille, a coastline less well known than the Marseille calanques but every bit as spectacular.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
