Everything about the campsites by the water in BIRON

Biron is a small village in the Dordogne department, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, tucked away in the Périgord Pourpre. The campsite listed here sits on a lake: no coastline here, but a genuine lakeside way of life, with freshwater swimming, fishing and quiet walks along the shore.

The Périgord Pourpre is also the land of the Bergerac vineyards and the medieval bastide towns that number in their dozens within just a few kilometres. Staying in Biron means enjoying a quiet base, away from the bustle of the larger resorts, to explore these golden-stone villages and their markets.

This setting suits anyone looking for a green stay as much as a waterside one: the lake takes centre stage here, in a rural, unspoilt setting typical of this part of the Dordogne.

What to see and do in BIRON

Biron owes its fame to its château, one of the largest in the Périgord: built and altered from the twelfth to the seventeenth century by the Gontaut-Biron family, it overlooks the village and the surrounding countryside with its blend of medieval keep, Renaissance chapel and classical residence. Visiting it remains the must-do of the town.

Around the château, the village still has its market hall and its stone lanes. A few kilometres away, the bastide town of Monpazier, classed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, is the finest example of a thirteenth-century English bastide, with its arcaded square and grid layout.

The region also lends itself to hiking and cycling, between valleys, oak forests and the vineyards of the Bergerac area, in a Périgord Pourpre still spared from mass tourism.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
