A 5-star campsite at the gateway to the Périgord Noir
Camping Le Moulinal is located at the site known as Étang du Moulinal in Biron, in the Dordogne. Its uniqueness lies in its exceptional lakeside setting: here, water is everywhere, in the pond, in the swimmable lake and in the spectacular water centre. This strong water-based identity makes all the difference and immerses holidaymakers in a world where swimming is the common thread of the stay. The 5-star estate spans large, carefully landscaped grounds, with shaded, well-defined pitches to preserve everyone’s privacy. Accommodation ranges from contemporary mobile homes to the premium Raoul 6 Top Presta Bord de Lac versions, highly rated by regulars for their orientation facing the water, letting you wake up looking out over the lake — an absolute favourite. Stéphane and Sébastien, the duo running the campsite, welcome holidaymakers with smiles and warmth. Open from 7 May to 6 September 2026, the establishment holds a rating of 9.1/10 across more than 2,200 customer surveys, a testament to its recognised quality of welcome.
Restaurant, bar and welcome from Stéphane and Sébastien
On-site catering includes both an à la carte restaurant and a bar-snack bar, both open during the campsite’s season, from 7 May to 6 September 2026. The restaurant showcases Périgord flavours — duck confit, Sarlat-style potatoes, foie gras, duck breast, regional dishes and children’s menus — in a warm atmosphere opening onto the terrace facing the pond. The quicker bar-snack bar offers pizzas, platters and ice cream for gourmet breaks after swimming. The outdoor terrace is very popular at the end of the day, when the sunset over the lake offers an exceptional spectacle. On the entertainment side, Stéphane and Sébastien, along with their entire Capfun team, run a packed programme in high season: Clapou clubs for 4-6 year-olds, Politicator for 7-10 year-olds, Nobodys for teens, as well as water wake-ups, sports tournaments and show evenings. Practical services include a grocery shop, a bread delivery service, a launderette, wifi and bike hire.
Périgord Noir, Sarlat and medieval bastides
The Moulinal’s location makes it an ideal base for discovering the Périgord Noir and its treasures. The swimmable lake, directly accessible from the campsite, offers supervised swimming, paddleboarding, pedal boats, kayaking and walks along its banks. Sarlat-la-Canéda, capital of the Périgord Noir, is 45 minutes away: its medieval historic centre, a listed historic monument, and its famous Saturday market make it a must-visit. The Dordogne valley unfolds its villages and castles a short distance away: Beynac with its perched castle, Domme with its exceptional panorama, La Roque-Gageac, ranked among France’s most beautiful villages, and Castelnaud with its medieval warfare museum. Les Eyzies, capital of prehistory, and Lascaux IV with its replica of the prehistoric cave, are 1 hour away for heritage enthusiasts. Biron and its imposing castle are close by. Gastronomy lovers will find farm inns, truffle fairs and producers’ markets everywhere. At the campsite, a multi-sport pitch, pétanque and table tennis tables keep sports enthusiasts occupied daily.
