Everything about the campsites by the water in Lascaux

Discovered in 1940 in Montignac and closed to the public as early as 1963 to protect its paintings, the Lascaux cave is now experienced through its full replica, Lascaux IV, opened in December 2016 and visited by more than 400,000 people every year. It is part of the prehistoric sites and decorated caves of the Vézère valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. After the visit, which takes 2.5 to 3 hours, the question is where to cool off: the campsites in our selection are spread between a swimming lake, ponds and the banks of the Vézère, all about a quarter of an hour from Montignac.

A private lake for swimming: Domaine du Lac de Dordogne

In Plazac, 17 km from Lascaux, the Domaine du Lac de Dordogne is built around a private 3.5-hectare lake with a sandy beach, for swimming, paddleboarding, canoeing and fishing; the water can reach 27 °C in summer. This three-star site adds a 220 m² heated pool and a paddling pool, open from June to September, a snack bar, tennis and mini-golf. Pitches are at least 100 m², and you can rent mobile homes and chalets for 5 to 6 people or an 85 m² gîte. Open from mid-May to 19 September 2026, it accepts pets under conditions. It is the only address in the selection where you can swim in a lake without leaving the campsite.

The ponds: supervised swimming and fishing

In Tamniès, Le Pont de Mazerat, a four-star site with 80 pitches, is 300 metres from the Tamniès pond: 5 hectares, supervised swimming in July and August, fishing from 1 May to 31 December, and a Blue Flag since 2011. The campsite also has a pool heated to 28 °C, a paddling pool, safari tents and canvas cabins. In the same commune, La Catie, a small site with 25 pitches and a pool, is 2 km from a pond, and the Domaine des Grands Pins, a 9-hectare park, rents chalets and lodge tents with a heated pool.

For anglers, Le Verdoyant in Thenon, 12 km from Lascaux IV, offers two fishing ponds free of charge, plus a recent water park; it is open from 4 April to 30 September 2026. In La Cassagne, a quarter of an hour from the cave, La Grande Prade, family-run since 1992, has its fishing pond, a 260 m² heated pool and the Flow cycle route nearby.

Along the Vézère

Le Paradis, in Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, borders the river: a landing stage lets you set off by canoe from the campsite. This five-star site with the EU Ecolabel has an indoor pool heated to 27 °C, a hammam, a sauna and a jacuzzi, and rents canvas cabins and holiday houses. In Montignac itself, Le Moulin du Bleufond is a five-minute walk from the centre: 4 hectares, a covered heated pool with a massage bench, an outdoor pool and a paddling pool, from 1 April to 30 September 2026. Further downstream, in Tursac, Le Vézère Périgord has the river nearby, an indoor heated pool with slides, and new 50 m² lodge tents in 2026; the Ferme Fournet, in the same commune, offers pitches and gîtes.

The big water parks

In Coly-Saint-Amand, a few minutes from the cave, Lascaux Vacances is a four-star Yelloh! Village: 40 pitches, 125 rentals, a covered heated pool with slides, a kids’ club for 5 to 12 year-olds in high season, a zip line and a giant trampoline. In Saint-Geniès, La Bouquerie, a five-star site with 203 pitches on 9 hectares, has the most complete water park in the area: 380 m² under cover, two large slides, a 50-metre lazy river and a fishing pond. In Rouffignac, the former Bleu Soleil, now Les Terrasses de Dordogne, covers more than 40 hectares, with 90 pitches and a heated water area with slides.

Cabins and small addresses

In Saint-Amand-de-Coly, a quarter of an hour from Lascaux, Périgord Vacances rents 12 round and tree-top cabins, some with a jacuzzi or spa: the most original unusual accommodation in the area, with two pools and 35 pitches. In Thonac, La Castillonderie, a four-star site, offers 33 pitches, lodge tents, a cabin on stilts and a heated pool. Le Pigeonnier, in Saint-Crépin-et-Carlucet, has 50 pitches on 6 hectares with a heated pool and a slide in summer, and Les Tailladis, in Marcillac-Saint-Quentin, opens from 15 April to 31 October with a bar-restaurant.

Our booking tips

To swim in natural water, the Domaine du Lac de Dordogne and its private lake, or Le Pont de Mazerat and the supervised Tamniès pond. For canoeing on the Vézère, Le Paradis or Le Vézère Périgord. With a family, Lascaux Vacances and La Bouquerie for their water parks and kids’ clubs; see also our campsites for family holidays. For Lascaux IV, book tickets in advance in summer and bring a jacket: it is about 13 °C inside the replica. To widen your search, see all our campsites in the Périgord Noir.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
