Le Mont-Saint-Michel lies in the Manche department, in Normandy, at the head of a bay world-famous for the range of its tides, among the strongest in continental Europe. The town borders both the sea and the Couesnon, the coastal river that historically marks the border between Normandy and Brittany before flowing into the bay.
Camping around Le Mont-Saint-Michel means enjoying this dual character: the vast tidal flats at low tide, where the horizon seems to recede endlessly, and the more intimate charm of the Couesnon's banks. The area lends itself equally to long guided walks across the flats, supervised for safety reasons, and to calmer activities along the river.
