Everything about the campsites by the water in Granville

Granville, in the Manche department, is built on a rocky headland overlooking the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel: it's sometimes nicknamed the 'Monaco of the North' for its casino and its fortified upper town perched above the waves. The nine campsites listed here on this portal all face the sea, which fits well with the geography of the town, almost entirely coastal.

The lower town, with its fishing and pleasure-boat harbour, contrasts with the upper town, which looks like a Breton citadel set down in Normandy. Granville benefits from a distinctive setting, between some of the strongest tides in Europe and views over the Chausey Islands. It's a complete seaside destination for a camping stay, between beaches, an active harbour and fortified heritage.

What to see and do in Granville

The upper town of Granville, ringed by seventeenth-century ramparts, is worth the climb: cobbled lanes, granite houses and a view over the bay from the sentry walk. The town is also the birthplace of Christian Dior, whose childhood villa, Les Rhumbs, today houses a museum dedicated to the designer and overlooks the sea amid its gardens.

Granville's harbour remains the starting point for reaching the Chausey Islands archipelago, an hour's crossing away, a site ranked among the largest tidal ranges in the world that reveals spectacular landscapes at low tide. The town is also known for its carnival, one of the oldest in France, and for its exceptionally high tides which draw shore fishers and curious visitors every year. Between fortified heritage, beaches and boat trips, Granville offers a fairly complete taste of the Manche coastline.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
