Everything about the campsites by the water in Marne

Marne has 7 listed campsites, with dominance of lake bank (4 establishments), ahead of river bank (2) and pond bank (1). Like its neighbour Haute-Marne, the department benefits from Lake Der-Chantecoq's presence, part of whose banks are on its territory, explaining this significant share of lake campsites despite a limited total number of addresses.

The Marne, river crossing the department and giving it its name, as well as a few navigation canals, complement an offering where the lake nonetheless remains the main reference for wateside camping in this wine-producing department.

A department first and foremost known for champagne, but whose Lake Der offers a nature and water alternative to the bustle of champagne houses in Reims and Épernay, for varying pleasures of a stay between vines and great body of water, less than an hour's drive from one another.

to discover

What to see and do in Marne

Reims and Épernay, champagne capitals, concentrate the great houses and their historic caves, often open for visits, in a vineyard classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its hillside landscape. The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, seat of French king coronations for centuries, ranks among the country's great Gothic buildings.

Lake Der-Chantecoq, shared with Haute-Marne, allows sailing practice, swimming and birdwatching, particularly during grey crane migration in autumn, a natural spectacle much appreciated by visiting guests.

The Marne, river and canal, crosses the department and invites cycling between vineyards and wine villages, in landscape typical of Champagne, dotted with hillsides covered with vines as far as the eye can see. Wine villages, with their winegrowers' houses and family cellars, complete this discovery of Champagne terroir.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
