Food lovers shouldn’t miss the Maison du Biscuit in Sortosville-en-Beaumont, a famous Normandy address whose financiers and other petits fours are worth the detour on their own. The Cap de la Hague, an hour away, offers spectacular panoramas over the northernmost tip of the Cotentin. The Channel Islands — Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney — are accessible by boat from Carteret for a refreshing day trip. Mont-Saint-Michel, 1h30 away, is worth a full day. Closer by, Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue and its oyster harbour, Cherbourg and the Cité de la Mer, and the D-Day landing beaches offer excursions steeped in history and heritage.
