Camping Le Marqueval 4-Star in Hautot-Sur-Mer

A 4-star campsite built around its three ponds, 1.2 km from the sea

Le Marqueval spreads over 8.5 hectares of meadowland in Hautot-sur-Mer, a few kilometres from Dieppe. Water is everywhere here: three ponds sit at the heart of the grounds, edged with hedges and tree-lined lanes, and the Channel begins 1.2 km away, down the valley towards Pourville. From the higher parts of the site the view runs across the farmland of the Pays de Caux to the line of the cliffs.

The campsite has 289 pitches, 62 of them set aside for tents, caravans and motorhomes, all with electrical hook-ups and water points. The rest of the grounds holds the rentals: Taos and O’Hara mobile homes, chalets facing the pond, and a range of unusual accommodations that gives the place its character. The Fisherman’s Cabin, set directly on the bank of one of the ponds, is the clearest example, with three bedrooms, a fitted kitchen and a bathroom.

Rated 4 stars, Le Marqueval accepts ANCV holiday vouchers. The lanes are lit at night, the sanitary blocks are accessible to guests with reduced mobility, and pets are welcome on the campsite.

Grocery, bread shop, snack bar and bar beside the pools

Le Marqueval runs on short circuits: whatever you have forgotten is on site. The grocery serves as the local shop, the bread service puts out baguettes and pastries each morning, and the snack bar offers rotisserie, pizzas and burgers to eat in or take away.

The bar, next to the swimming area, is the evening meeting point, ice creams and ice cubes included. Barbecues are allowed on the pitches.

On the practical side, the laundry has washing machines and tumble dryers, and the sanitary blocks are described as high-comfort, with access for guests with reduced mobility. A table tennis table, a playground and a mini farm complete the facilities. The three ponds are open for fishing to campers.

Pourville, Dieppe and the Alabaster Coast from the campsite

The first outing is on foot or by bike: the sea is 1.2 km away, and the valley running down to Pourville joins the GR21, the path that follows the cliffs of the Alabaster Coast. Dieppe, its fishing harbour, its castle museum and its Saturday market are about six kilometres away.

To the west, Varengeville-sur-Mer and the Gorges du Petit Ailly beach are worth the detour, then Veules-les-Roses. To the east, Le Tréport and its cliffs close off the coast. Étretat, Fécamp and the Bénédictine Palace make good day trips, as does Rouen.
