Haute-Savoie has 51 listed wateside campsites, very largely around lakes: 42 establishments benefit from a body of water, against only nine on river banks. This imbalance is naturally explained by the presence of two of France's largest lakes, Lake Geneva and Lake Annecy, which structure a large part of the department's tourism offering.
Lake Geneva, shared with Switzerland, borders the entire north of the department for several dozens of kilometres, from Évian to Saint-Gingolph. Lake Annecy, renowned for the clarity of its waters, also concentrates many establishments, particularly on its east bank. Rivers, such as the Arve, complete the offering in mountain valleys.

Haute-Savoie is organised around two large lakes and the Mont-Blanc massif. Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Western Europe, allows sailing, paddleboarding and swimming, with towns such as Thonon-les-Bains or Évian-les-Bains on its banks. Lake Annecy, often cited for its water quality, is bordered by the old town of Annecy and its canals.
The Mont-Blanc massif, the Alps' highest peak, dominates the department and attracts hikers and mountaineers, particularly around Chamonix. Mid and high-mountain resorts offer numerous summer hiking routes with views of glaciers.
