Everything about the campsites by the water in Rhône

The Rhône department has only six listed wateside campsites, with distribution shared between river, lake and pond: three establishments on river banks, two near a body of water and one close to a pond. This limited offering is explained by the very urbanised character of the department, structured around Lyon's metropolis.

The listed campsites are found principally in Beaujolais, to the north, where the Saône and its tributaries offer a more rural and green setting, suitable for family camping. Bodies of water, less numerous, complete an offering that remains modest compared to neighbouring Ain or Isère departments.

With only six campsites, Rhône is not a major destination for wateside camping, but nonetheless offers a few local addresses for residents of Lyon and its conurbation.

What to see and do in Rhône

The Rhône department is dominated by the Lyon metropolis, a city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its historic centre, traboules and recognised gastronomic heritage. The Saône and Rhône quays, recently redeveloped, offer appreciated walks in the city's heart. The basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, which dominates the city from its hilltop, offers a remarkable viewpoint over the conurbation and the Alps on clear days.

To the north of the department, the Beaujolais vineyard unfolds its hillsides between golden stone villages and tasting cellars, in a rolling landscape quite different from Lyon's conurbation. The Lyon hills, to the west, complete the natural offering with viewpoints over the Rhône valley.

Between exceptional urban heritage and the Beaujolais vineyard, the department combines urban tourism and nearby rural getaways.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
