Everything about the campsites by the water in Lozère

Lozère has 37 listed campsites, with clear fluvial dominance: 30 establishments border a river, 7 a lake and just one a pond. France's least-populated mainland department, Lozère is crossed by the Tarn, Lot and Allier, whose gorges and enclosed valleys structure much of the wateside campsite offering.

Tarn gorges, shared with neighbouring Aveyron, concentrate most river-bank campsites, with calm summer waters and typical limestone cliff landscapes of the plateaus. Less numerous lakes are found mainly in Margeride and Mont Lozère, like Lake Naussac or Lake Charpal, in more mountain environments.

Land of the Cevennes national park, Lozère remains a mid-mountain department, away from major tourist flows, where the river structures most summer outdoor tourism.

to discover

What to see and do in Lozère

Lozère is largely organised around Cevennes national park, France's only national park housing a permanent population, classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Tarn gorges, shared with Aveyron, offer cliff landscapes and typical villages like La Malène or Sainte-Énimie.

Mont Lozère and Aubrac plateau, with their altitude landscapes, stone shepherds' huts and peat bogs, lend themselves to hiking and wildlife observation, particularly Aubrac cattle herds that make these high plateaus famous.

Mende, the department's prefecture, and surroundings retain authentic rural heritage, far from major tourist routes, making Lozère one of France's most preserved departments.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
