Hermanville-sur-Mer, in the Calvados department, is part of that string of small Normandy resorts that line the Channel between Ouistreham and the Côte de Nacre. The single establishment listed here on this portal naturally faces the sea, in keeping with a town that is essentially coastal.
It's a low-key camping destination, less well known than Cabourg or Deauville, which benefits from the same direct beach access and the same D-Day heritage as the rest of the Normandy Côte de Nacre. A good base for a quiet stay by the Channel.
Hermanville-sur-Mer sits on what the Allies named Sword Beach during the June 1944 landings: the beach still holds several remnants and memorials from this historic episode, including a British military cemetery that recalls the international scale of these events.
The town is part of the Côte de Nacre, a coastline of long fine sandy beaches lined with seaside villas from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Nearby, Ouistreham and its harbour offer a ferry crossing to England, while Caen, about fifteen kilometres away, offers richer historical heritage. Hermanville-sur-Mer remains above all a family-friendly, quiet beach, away from the livelier resorts of the Normandy coast.
Other campsites less than 30 km away, in neighbouring towns.
Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
