Everything about the campsites by the water in Eure-et-Loir

Eure-et-Loir has 5 listed campsites, with slight dominance of pond-bank establishments (3) ahead of those installed on river banks (2). An inland department, without maritime coast or large lake, where camping is practised mainly around small bodies of water and along modest watercourses like the Eure or Loir, crossing preserved rural landscapes.

The offering remains limited in numbers, but consistent with local geography, marked by the great agricultural plain of Beauce and by the greener valleys surrounding it, conducive to quiet stops away from major tourist routes and most-visited sites in the region.

A department better considered as a nature and heritage stop, near Chartres, than as a seaside or great lake destination, but which will seduce campers seeking peace and agricultural landscapes typical of central France.

to discover

What to see and do in Eure-et-Loir

Chartres dominates the department's heritage broadly, with its Cathedral of Notre-Dame, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous for its stained glass and unique blue found nowhere else. The old town, built on heights above the Eure, is visited on foot between steep alleyways, old houses and river bridges.

Beauce, the vast cereal plain occupying much of the department, offers open landscapes characteristic of the region, dotted with villages and isolated church spires visible for kilometres around. The Eure and Loir valleys, more enclosed and wooded, contrast with this agricultural plateau and invite greener walks along the water, between old mills and washing facilities.

To the west, Perche, with its bocage, stud farms renowned for horse breeding and timber-framed houses, completes landscape diversity accessible from departmental campsites, between open plain and rolling countryside.

our method

How we select every campsite

1

A verified criterion, not a promise

Every by the water campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.

2

Reputation, backed by reviews

We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.

3

Direct booking, transparent pricing

You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
