Savoie has 32 listed wateside campsites, mainly around lakes: 23 establishments border a body of water, against seven on river banks. The department is home to Lake Bourget, France's largest natural lake, which concentrates a significant part of this offering, particularly around Aix-les-Bains.
Lake Aiguebelette, smaller and preserved from motorboat traffic, completes the lake offering with waters reputed among France's cleanest. Rivers, such as the Isère or Arc, meanwhile cross the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys in a high-mountain setting.
