Isère lists 42 wateside campsites, dominated by bodies of water: 28 establishments border a lake, nine a river and four a pond. This proportion is explained by the presence of several mountain lakes and reservoirs, notably around the Belledonne massif and Vercors.
Lake Paladru, one of Isère's largest natural lakes, as well as Lake Monteynard-Avignonet, an artificial reservoir appreciated for kitesurfing, count among the most frequented bodies of water. Rivers, such as the Isère itself or the Drac, complete the offering in alpine valleys.
With 42 campsites, Isère combines a mountain and body of water offering, between Chartreuse, Vercors and Belledonne, in immediate proximity to Grenoble. This diversity allows combining a lake stay and mountain excursions without leaving the department.
Isère is split between three major mountain massifs: Chartreuse, Vercors and Belledonne, which offer hiking, via ferrata and panoramas of the Alps. Lake Paladru and Lake Monteynard-Avignonet, two emblematic bodies of water, allow swimming, sailing and kitesurfing in a mountain setting.
Grenoble, the department's capital, is renowned for its alpine setting and historic cable car leading to the Bastille. Further south, the Vercors massif, classified as a regional natural park, is known for its limestone cliffs and its role in Resistance history.
