Berck lies in the Pas-de-Calais department, in Hauts-de-France, on the Côte d'Opale. Of the 10 campsites listed, the large majority enjoy access to the sea, with one establishment also located on a riverbank, not far from the mouth of the Authie which marks the town's southern boundary.
People camp in Berck for its very wide sandy beach, one of the largest on the Côte d'Opale, which has made it a major centre for land-sailing and wind sports in general. The campsite benefits from this generous space, ideal for family activities as well as long walks by the sea.
Between a historic seaside resort and the vast, windswept expanses typical of the Côte d'Opale, Berck remains a town shaped by its particular relationship with the sea, both sporting and therapeutic since the nineteenth century. The 10 campsites listed mostly benefit from direct access to the sea, complemented by riverside access near the mouth of the Authie.
Berck developed in the nineteenth century as a sea-cure resort, known for the benefits of its iodine-rich air on children's health, a history that has lastingly shaped the town's identity and its network of care facilities, still present today.
Berck's beach, very wide at low tide, has established itself as one of the reference spots for land-sailing in France, a sport regularly seen practised along the seafront. The Côte d'Opale's strong winds also make it a sought-after spot for kitesurfing.
South of the town, the Authie estuary forms a wilder area of marshes and dunes, ideal for birdwatching. Between a sporty beach and unspoilt nature on the estuary side, Berck keeps two complementary faces within the same area. The long, open promenade along the seawall remains a popular place to watch land-sailors in action.
