A large, leafy campsite on the shores of the Arcachon Basin
Camping Roumingue is located at 61 avenue de la Libération in Lanton, on the northern shore of the Arcachon Basin. The 5-star estate spreads over a generously sized, wooded park, shaded by the maritime pines typical of the Aquitaine coast. Pitches, clearly marked, alternate between sunny areas and cooler terraces beneath the foliage. Accommodation ranges from modern, upmarket mobile homes to pitches for tents and caravans, with particular attention to the quality of the layout, very often praised by guests. The campsite’s location, halfway between Cap Ferret and the Dune du Pilat, makes it an ideal base for exploring the whole basin. Open for a long season from 11 April to 3 November, the establishment benefits from a rating of 8.8/10 from nearly 3,000 customer surveys, a mark of consistent hospitality quality and well-regarded entertainment. The many children’s play areas and shows are among the points regulars often mention.
Restaurant, Capfun entertainment and practical services
Dining on site centres around an à la carte restaurant showcasing seafood from the Arcachon Basin: local oysters, grilled fish and daily specials with Aquitaine flavours. Kids’ menus and takeaway dishes round out the offering for quicker evenings. The restaurant is open throughout the season, from 11 April to 3 November. As for entertainment, the Capfun team runs a particularly packed programme in summer, with Clapou clubs for 4-6 year-olds, Politicator for 7-10 year-olds, Nobodys for teenagers, but above all shows often cited as a highlight by campsite regulars. Pool wake-up sessions, sports tournaments and themed evenings follow one another at a lively pace. Practical services include a grocery shop for everyday shopping, daily bread delivery, a laundrette, Wi-Fi in the communal areas and bike hire — invaluable for reaching the cycle paths that criss-cross the Arcachon Basin.
Cap Ferret, the Dune du Pilat and oyster-farming villages
Roumingue’s location opens up a wonderfully rich playground. The coastal path, directly accessible from the campsite, runs along the basin and offers walks on foot or by bike through the charming oyster harbours of Cassy and Taussat, where you can taste oysters right by the water. The Dune du Pilat, a 35-minute drive away, is well worth the climb for its exceptional panorama over the Landes forest and the Banc d’Arguin sandbank. Cap Ferret and its fishing village, reachable by ferry from Arcachon or by road in an hour, offer a day of escape between ocean and basin, with a view of the dune from the western side. Sailing enthusiasts will find sailing schools, paddleboarding and catamarans all around the basin. On site at the campsite, a multi-sports pitch, pétanque and table tennis tables keep sports fans busy. For children, the Aqualand water park at Gujan-Mestras, Le Teich with its bird reserve, and the basin’s famous stilt huts are must-sees for a successful stay in the Gironde.
