Camping Mas de la Cam stretches along the Gardon de Saint-Jean, 3 km from the village of Saint-Jean-du-Gard. The estate covers 65 hectares of meadows and tall trees, and the river runs along its entire edge: a pebble beach opens at the end of the paths, within walking distance of every pitch.
The Gardon rises in the Aigoual massif and flows for 49 km to Anduze. In front of the campsite its bed widens and the water slows down so much that it looks like a small lake. The river and its valley are a protected Natura 2000 site.
The 4-star campsite welcomes tents, caravans and motorhomes on 199 marked, shaded pitches of 95 to 140 m², and offers four holiday cottages built in Cévennes stone. Open from 12 May to 20 September 2027.
After a swim, the bar and restaurant, open from June to 9 September, serves pizzas, chips and Cévennes salads with Pélardon, the local goat’s cheese. Its shaded terrace shows major sporting events on a big screen, including the Tour de France.
In July and August the shop sells fresh bread and pastries every morning, perfect for breakfast by the water. The rest of the season, bread can be ordered at reception. A launderette with three washing machines and a dryer completes the facilities.
The three toilet blocks have been renovated, with baby baths and accessible cubicles for people with reduced mobility. Wi-Fi is free and covers about 60% of the pitches. Dogs are welcome on the pitches, kept on a lead.
Life at the campsite follows the rhythm of the river: a swim in the morning, a nap under the trees, then back to the Gardon late in the day when the sun warms the pebbles. Families picnic and play ball on the bank.
On the one-hectare play area, children will find a trampoline, a zip line, a climbing net structure, an 800 m² multi-sports pitch and two pump tracks. Adults have a padel court, a tennis court, and pétanque pitches and table tennis tables lit in the evening. In high season there is a kids’ club and a music night every week.
From the river, a path climbs to the Col Saint-Pierre (11 km return) and its viewpoint table at 695 m. The Cévennes steam train links Saint-Jean-du-Gard to Anduze, running alongside the Gardon.
