A Clicochic campsite on a Jura peninsula
Camping Chancia is located on chemin de la Presqu’île in Chancia, in the Ain department, on the border with the Jura. Its distinctiveness lies in its exceptional setting: a small slice of paradise on a peninsula in the heart of the Jura, where nature is ever-present and water is everywhere, amid birdsong and the calm of the lake. This strong identity makes all the difference and immerses holidaymakers in a rejuvenating world from the moment they arrive. The estate, under the Capfun group’s premium Clicochic brand, spreads over a carefully landscaped park with particular attention paid to the quality of the accommodation and the chic-yet-relaxed spirit that defines the brand. Contemporary, upmarket mobile homes and family lodges make up most of the offering. Claire, the campsite manager, personally welcomes holidaymakers in a warm, family atmosphere that guests particularly appreciate. Open from 30 April to 6 September 2026, the establishment holds a rating of 9.0/10 from over 1,000 customer surveys, a mark of recognised quality.
Restaurant, bar and a welcome from Claire the manager
Dining on site includes both an à la carte restaurant and a snack bar, both open throughout the campsite’s season, from 30 April to 6 September 2026. The restaurant showcases Franche-Comté flavours — Comté fondue, raclette, morbiflette, local charcuterie, Haut-Jura dishes — in a chic-yet-relaxed Clicochic atmosphere opening onto the terrace facing the lake. The snack bar, quicker to grab a bite, offers pizzas, platters and ice cream for tasty breaks after swimming. The outdoor terrace is especially popular at the end of the day. The personal welcome from Claire, the manager, is one of the strengths regulars regularly mention. As for entertainment, the team brings peak season to life with programmes suited to the intimate scale of the establishment and respectful of its natural surroundings. Practical services include a small grocery shop, daily bread delivery, a laundrette, Wi-Fi in the communal areas and bike hire to explore the Jura.
The lake, canoeing, Saint-Claude and Comté cheese
Chancia’s location opens up a wonderfully rich playground. The lake, directly accessible from the campsite, offers supervised swimming at the nearby small beach, canoe hire on site for memorable outings on the water, and even a fishing spot for enthusiasts. This variety of lakeside activities makes the campsite a true paradise for freshwater lovers. Saint-Claude, capital of the Haut-Jura, is 25 minutes away: its famous covered market, whose fresh Comté cheese has regulars coming back for more, is well worth a visit, as are its cathedral and its pipe and diamond museum. The famous Route des Sapins winds through the forested landscapes nearby. Further afield, the Cascades du Hérisson waterfalls — one of the Jura’s iconic natural sites — are 45 minutes away: a marked trail lets you climb seven successive waterfalls through an enchanting forest. Lake Vouglans, France’s largest artificial lake, is 30 minutes away. For food lovers, Comté cheese dairies and Jura distilleries are a short distance away. On site at the campsite, a multi-sports pitch and pétanque keep sports fans busy.
