Camping La Rivière Dorée, in Bagneaux-sur-Loing, spreads across 4 wooded hectares on the banks of the Loing canal, south of Seine-et-Marne. This family-run 3-star campsite sits in a peaceful natural setting shaded by oak trees, a stone’s throw from the Fontainebleau forest, a cult destination for fans of climbing and unusual outdoor stays.
The site welcomes three main types of stay: traditional pitches (tent, caravan, motorhome) on stabilised, shaded ground, unusual accommodation (wooden pods, tipis, transparent bubbles, gypsy caravans, cabins), and equipped rental tents ready to camp in. The cycle path runs along the Loing’s bank, perfect for a bike ride along the canal. On the practical side: modern facilities, laundry, takeaway snack-pizza, motorhome welcome, pets accepted.
To continue your riverside exploration in the Seine-et-Marne department, we also recommend Camping La Belle Étoile in La Rochette on the Seine, Camping Île de Boulancourt in the south of the department, or Camping Le Chêne Gris near Disneyland.
When it comes to services, Camping La Rivière Dorée focuses on doing the essentials well. The bilingual French/English reception team greets you on arrival, offers tourist maps of the Fontainebleau forest and shares the best tips on climbing and hiking spots.
On site: modern facilities with hot water (showers, sinks, toilets), a laundry with washers and dryers, a motorhome service point (waste disposal + water supply), electricity available on pitches (extra charge), free Wi-Fi at reception, and takeaway pizzas made on site on weekend evenings. A communal fridge is available for cycle tourists.
The campsite welcomes dogs on a leash (except categories 1 and 2). For groups (school trips, sports clubs, corporate outings), a 100 m² communal room with kitchenette can be rented by the day or week – ideal for climbing courses or team-building in the forest.
If you’re after premium services such as a spa and gourmet restaurant, take a look instead at Camping Huttopia Rambouillet in the Rambouillet forest – a different format, but the same nature-loving spirit.
Right on the Loing, at the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, Camping La Rivière Dorée is a dream base camp for lovers of active nature. Right by the campsite, the Scandibérique (EuroVelo 3) follows the canal – hop on a bike towards Nemours, Moret-sur-Loing or Souppes for a leisurely day’s ride along the water.
For watersports, the nearby canoe-kayak base lets you paddle gently down the Loing. Anglers (day licence sold on site) fish along the banks for pike, pikeperch and carp. For climbers, the Fontainebleau forest and its 9 climbing areas (Cul de Chien, Apremont, Bas Cuvier, Trois Pignons…) are 10-20 minutes away by car – the world’s bouldering eldorado.
For families: children’s play area, pétanque court, table tennis, board games available at reception. Walking trails set off right from the campsite (GR1, GR11, GR13 nearby). Disneyland Paris is 35 minutes away, Provins (medieval UNESCO town) is 1 hour, the Château de Fontainebleau 15 minutes – the cycle route along the Loing remains one of the best ways to discover the region.
