A 5-star campsite 400 metres from the beaches of Oléron
Camping Les Huttes is located at 15 rue des Seulières in Saint-Denis-d’Oléron, at the very northern tip of the Île d’Oléron. Its setting is exceptional: just 400 metres from the beach, in an unspoilt area that opens the door to one of the most beautiful parts of the island. The 5-star estate stretches across greenery typical of Oléron, with shaded, carefully defined pitches to preserve everyone’s privacy. Accommodation ranges from contemporary mobile homes to more spacious versions for large families, in a layout designed for lovers of nature and island slow tourism. The immediate proximity of the cycle paths criss-crossing the island — over 100 km of secure routes — lets you do everything by bike, in keeping with the Oléron spirit. Open for an extended season from 11 April to 21 September, the campsite holds a remarkable rating of 9.1/10 across more than 1,800 customer surveys, a testament to its recognised quality of welcome. Regulars readily describe Les Huttes as a real gem of the island.
Restaurant, bar and Oléron services
On-site catering includes both an à la carte restaurant and a bar-snack bar, both open during the campsite’s extended season. The restaurant showcases Charentais and Oléron flavours — market produce, seafood, local oysters, regional dishes — in a friendly atmosphere opening onto the green park. The quicker bar-snack bar offers pizzas, platters and ice cream for gourmet breaks. The outdoor terrace is very popular at the end of the day. On the entertainment side, the Capfun team runs high season with its Clapou clubs for 4-6 year-olds, Politicator for 7-10 year-olds, Nobodys for teens, as well as water wake-ups, sports tournaments and themed evenings, in keeping with the campsite’s family atmosphere. Practical services include a convenience store for everyday shopping, a daily bread delivery service, a launderette, wifi in communal areas and bike hire — an essential service for making the most of Oléron’s cycle paths and the island’s charms.
Beaches, cycling and Oléron heritage
Les Huttes’ location makes it a privileged base for discovering the whole of the Île d’Oléron. The beach, just 400 metres away, offers swimming, beach games and first surf lessons — the island is a spot popular with beginners. The cycle paths criss-crossing Oléron over several dozen kilometres let you do everything by bike, from the salt marshes to the lighthouses via the oyster harbours. Saint-Denis-d’Oléron offers an exceptional panorama over the Île de Ré, the Antioche lighthouse and the fish weirs visible at low tide — a fascinating geological spectacle. The Citadelle du Château-d’Oléron, a UNESCO listed site, deserves half a day. The port of La Cotinière, the largest fishing port in Charente-Maritime, offers its spectacular return of the trawlers. The Chassiron lighthouse, the island’s northernmost point, offers a 360° panorama. For bird lovers, the Marais aux Oiseaux is a remarkable bird sanctuary. At the campsite, a multi-sport pitch, pétanque and table tennis tables keep sports enthusiasts occupied.
